Pelekas Village

Pelekas Village

Pelekas is a picturesque traditional Corfiot village located 13 kilometers from Corfu Town, in the center of the island, near the central western coast of Corfu, at an altitude of 270 meters above sea level. Visitors to this cozy village can fully enjoy the traditional character of Corfu – narrow streets, small churches, pristine nature untouched by civilization, tranquility, beautiful panoramic views of the mountain slopes, and magnificent panoramic sunsets will leave you captivated. Pelekas village is home to numerous traditional taverns where you can sample traditional Greek and Corfiot cuisine, several tourist shops, a cafeteria, and a bakery.

On a cliff overlooking the village is the "Kaiser's Throne" observation deck. The "Kaiser's Throne" is a historical monument dating back to the reign of Kaiser Wilhelm II. Situated on a clifftop above the village of Pelekas, it offers breathtaking panoramic views of almost the entire island of Corfu, the coast of Albania, and mainland Epirus. The Kaiser's Gazebo is built of metal and stone, and a stone staircase leads to the viewing platform with binoculars. Next to the Kaiser's Throne is a small hotel and cafeteria, where you can sip a cold cocktail or grab a snack in the shade of the trees while enjoying the stunning views and fresh mountain air. Admission to the observation deck is free. There is no public transportation to the Kaiser's Throne, so you can reach it either by rental car or by walking from Pelekas village (about 800 meters uphill).

Just 2 km below Pelekas village is one of Corfu's most beautiful sandy beaches, Kontoyialos (meaning "short bay"). The beach is very similar to the famous Glyfada beach, located nearby.
