Archeological Museum
The Corfu Archaeological Museum was built between 1962 and 1965 to house artifacts found in the ancient Greek Temple of Artemis. In 1994, the museum was expanded, and by 2018, it had undergone a complete renovation.
The Archaeological Museum houses a collection of archaeological finds from all over Corfu, including from the center of the ancient city of Hersoupoli, the Kassiopi region, and exhibits of unknown origin.
Of particular value is the stone pediment from the ancient Temple of Artemis—one of the largest and best-preserved stone pediments in Greece—depicting the Gorgon Medusa and her sons (590-580 BC). The museum also houses the Lion of Menecrates, the pediment of Dionysus, the marble torso of Apollo, funerary steles, terracotta figurines of Artemis, and much more.
