Excursion to Albania City of Saranda

This one-day cruise to the mysterious country of Albania is designed for travelers with an interest in history and unusual adventures.

Leaving the port of Corfu, we will follow the coast of Albania to the city port of the Albanian city of Saranda. If desired, you can purchase an additional bus excursion on the ship along the virgin shores of the southern coast and a group of small islands. We will pass through small picturesque villages and endless fertile plains that lead to a large lake. The highlight of the excursion will be a visit to Butrint - a UNESCO World Heritage Site. For centuries, the ancient city disappeared under layers of silt and vegetation. However, in recent years, archaeologists have discovered the remains of one of the most interesting ancient cities in the Mediterranean. On the shore of the lake is an ancient city, currently located on four levels - Venetian, Byzantine, ancient Roman, ancient Greek. The Venetian Tower at the entrance, the ancient theatre, the Temple of Asclepius, the ancient gymnasium, the Roman baths, the Roman baptistery with its priceless mosaic floor, the Lion Gate and the huge Cyclopean walls will take you back to the era from 2500 BC to the 3rd century AD. At the top of the hill stands the Venetian castle, offering a breathtaking panoramic view of the ancient city, the lake and the vast plains below. Lunch is offered on the way back. In the afternoon, a walking tour of Saranda is offered, after which we set off on the return journey.
